VNI West
AEMO’s Victorian Planning function and Transgrid are continuing to assess the technical and economic viability of expanding the transmission interconnector capacity between Victoria and New South Wales to help maintain a stable and reliable supply of clean energy for homes and businesses. AEMO and Transgrid have identified a proposed new high-capacity 500 kilovolt (kV) double-circuit overhead transmission line, providing a connection between the Western Renewables Link in Victoria and Project EnergyConnect in New South Wales. (VNI West). AEMO and Transgrid are jointly progressing VNI West, with Transgrid developing the NSW section and Transmission Company Victoria (TCV), a wholly owned subsidiary of AEMO, developing the “early works” stage in Victoria.
Have your say
AEMO and TCV recognises the important role the community plays in the planning and delivery of transmission projects, and we are committed to working with the community to help us shape the best possible solution.
We are seeking your local knowledge via Our Collaboration Platform (described below) to help inform the route selection process for VNI West. We are looking to learn about local landmarks, important community places, areas of environmental or cultural significance, and other features that could impact the route.

TCV have recently released the draft corridor for the Victorian portion of the project, which is approximately 2kms wide, running from Bulgana to the Murray River, where it will connect to TransGrid’s NSW section of the project.
TCV’s interactive map shows this corridor within the wider area of interest. The corridor report provides detail on how sensitive areas of land use (agricultural, environmental and cultural) influenced the route refinement process.
You can use this map to search for a property address and view comments made by community members as part of our community consultation in July.
If you have further feedback or questions, please contact TCV at enquiries@transmissionvictoria.com.au or on 1800 824 221.
